The first series of the detective crime series Broadchurch began on 4th March 2013. It takes place within the town of Broadchurch, which the series takes its name from. The series sees the investigation into the murder of Danny Latimer, and how the community is dealing with it.

It was widely said and believed that none of the cast knew who the killer was until hours before filming Episode 1.8, with cast members even taking bets on who the killer was going to be. [1] However, it was later revealed that this wasn't exactly true, as Olivia Colman had been given the name of the killer during her casting interview before being told an hour later that "they weren't going to be doing it like that". She kept the fact that she knew the killer a secret until long after filming had finished, with it being revealed that she had kept the secret so well, even joining in on the betting, that fellow cast members had no idea that she knew more than the rest of them.
