Cate Gillespie is the mother of Pippa Gillespie and the ex-wife of Ricky Her niece is Lisa Newbury. She first appeared in series 1 when she confessed to Beth Latimer that she spent most of her days asleep after the murder of her daughter and niece in sandbrook. She reappears in series 2 when Ellie Miller and Alec Hardy reinvestigate the sandbrook case.
